WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Emergency managers in Marathon County have declared a state of emergency following Wednesday’s storms.
Emergency Manager Phil Rentmeester says he’s reached out to all impacted municipalities to offer support and assistance as crews cleanup downed branches and trees and assess other damage caused by the wind and heavy rain. A damage assessment team is also on its way to Marathon County to size up the situation.
Declaring a state of emergency also may allow some communities to recover funds spent on cleanup.
Residents are asked to report storm damage by calling 211 from any cell phone or landline.
Late Wednesday Portage County pro-actively declared a state of emergency as forecasters became more confident that the area would see significant rain and wind.
