KRONENWETTER, WI (WSAU) — Residents in the Village of Kronenwetter are being asked to be patient as new staffers get trained into their positions.
Interim Village Administrator Duane Gau says for now they are closing Village Hall on Fridays through early October to allow for all-staff training. He knows it may be an inconvenience for some, but he says it’s necessary if they will be able to provide the level of service that residents expect in the future. “We’re basically looking to set up that day to train staff,” said Gau.
Gau says they are also suspending all standing committees for the time being in favor of a committee of the whole governance model. That means staffers don’t have to worry about being at committee meetings along with regular Village Board meetings. Instead, they can bring their issues to one body.
“It puts a lot on the Village Board,” said Gau. “But it also gives staff [a break,] not having to run to all these committees, doing minutes.”
The second Monday of the month will be set aside for the Committee of the Whole meeting. A voting meeting of the board will then be held the following week. Gau says the arrangement will be temporary, adding that the standing committees do good work.
Gau adds that residents shouldn’t think that the change in meeting structure or Village Hall hours means they will have less access to their elected officials. Residents can still show up to provide in-person comments at all meetings that are agendized for public comment, and contact board members directly to provide feedback as well.
“Our main goal is to make sure they get the service they expect. [Residents] can come in and meet different people, but they do know that we aren’t going to be able to service like we have in the past. Have patience with us,” added Gau.
