CHIPPEWA FALLS, WI (WSAU) — A telephone scheduling conference has been added to the calendar for the teenage boy accused of killing Lilly Peters in Chippewa Falls this spring.
Court records show the conference was added for January 9th at 8:30 AM.
This comes after the prosecution expressed frustration with the slow roll of the case earlier this month, saying that a delay in the proceedings is delaying justice for Lilly’s family. But lawyers for the defendant said that the hearings that are scheduled for August 2023 were the earliest that both sides could meet with the judge in person.
Peters died last spring as she was riding her bike home from her aunt’s house. Investigators say her body was found along a creek after she was beaten and strangled to death. The suspect is also charged with sexual assault in the case as well.
After a few hearings this summer, the case was put on hold until August 2023 when five days of hearings were scheduled beginning on the 7th.
It remains unclear if the case will move to the juvenile court system or stay in adult court. Because of that, the identity of the defendant remains under wraps. So far he’s been identified as C.P.B.
Peters would have turned 11 earlier this month.
