CHIPPEWA FALLS, WI (WSAU) — The Wausau man who led police on a multi-county manhunt along Highway 29 in September has reached a plea deal for felony counts of hit-and-run causing injury, second-degree recklessly endangering safety, and fleeing an officer.
Chad Myszka entered the pleas on Wednesday in Chippewa County court. A judge then found him guilty of all three counts.
Several other counts have been dismissed but read in including multiple charges of first- recklessly endangering safety.
The 20-year-old led officers on a high-speed chase into Chippewa Falls which ended when he crashed into two vehicles. He then fled the scene.
Officers believed he was armed and dangerous, which prompted a shelter-in-place order for residents near the scene. It was later discovered that Myszka had stolen a semi from a Chippewa Falls parking lot and used it to return to Wausau. He turned himself in the next day.
At least one victim of the crashes suffered broken bones.
A full presentence investigation will now be conducted. Myszka returns to court on January 30th for sentencing.
