GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – We all have a friend or family member who may have a lucky jersey, a favorite chair, or some pregame ritual that leads them to believe they can help the Packers win a big game.
According to a study by Casino.org, Packer fans are the third most superstitious fan base in professional sports, ranking only behind Dallas Cowboys fans and Los Angeles Lakers fans.
A 2017 Green Bay Press-Gazette article about a teenage Packers fan who won’t remove an ankle bracelet until the team wins another Super Bowl is referenced in the study along with fans who believe the Packers play better when they aren’t in the room.
Overall, NFL fans were ranked the most superstitious in professional sports, with NBA fans coming in a close second.
The survey also asked respondents what their go-to pre-game ritual was, and wearing a specific color along with wearing a lucky piece of clothing were the most popular answers.
Other notable responses included watching the game in a specific place and eating a certain meal before a big game.
Rounding out the top five fan bases on the list are the Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Yankees, and Chicago Bears.
