MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — As we come to the end of tax season, be careful of scams in your inbox.
IRS spokesman Christopher Miller says criminals will be trying to send you convincing-looking tax-related messages in order to scam you.
“The goal of the scammers is to get you to click on a link or attachment. So they can steal your personal information or download malware to steal your passwords, which can lead to identity theft,” said Miller.
Miller says many email and phone services will already weed out these messages into a spam folder, but as a precaution, don’t click on any links in unfamiliar messages.
