WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The Legislature’s Joint Finance Committee held a budget listening session in Wausau on Tuesday.
The session allowed groups from Central and Northern Wisconsin to provide feedback to the committee on what they would like to see in the new two-year spending plan.
Committee Co-Chairs Howard Marklein and Mark Born said the budget remains a work-in-progress, but that’s to be expected at this time.
“We’re working through the normal process,” said Committee Co-Chair Mark Born of Beaver Dam. “Starting in May, we will craft the legislative budget. That usually takes six to eight weeks, [so] we are on schedule and continuing to work towards out goal of having the budget done this summer.”
In addition to the 16 members of the Joint Finance Committee, local legislators were also on hand, including Mosinee’s Cory Tomczyk and Brent Jacobson, Thorp’s Jessie James, and Wausau’s Pat Snyder.
The session began at 10 AM with remarks from the committee and Wausau Mayor Doug Diny. Groups who pre-registered were then given between two and five minutes to address the Committee.
Similar sessions were held in Hayward, Kaukauna, and West Allis.
