WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU) — A Marshfield man is in a Wood County courtroom, scheduled to plead for one count of second-degree intentional homicide.
Deyvin Castro Gutierrez pleaded no contest to the charge on Tuesday and was found guilty. Investigators say he killed his roommate, Blanca Jesenia Hernandez Portocarrero, in November 2024, then dumped her body along a highway in Price County.
He was sentenced to 25 years in prison and an additional 20 years on extended supervision. The sentence also includes a full no-contact order with Hernandez Portocarrero’s family and fines.
The 28-year-old was found burned along State Highway 13 on November 3rd, 2024. Investigators later revealed that they believed she was killed in Marshfield, then taken to that location. Castro Gutierrez was taken into custody about a week later.
Investigators from multiple agencies were involved, including the Marshfield PD and Price County Sheriff’s Office. Law enforcement from Taylor, Vilas, and Wood Counties were also involved, along with the FBI and the Hennepin County Medical Examiner in Minnesota.
