MERRILL, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – The Merrill Area Public Schools (MAPS) are welcoming two new school resource officers for the 2025-26 school year.
Officers Nicole Cimino and John Sass are the new additions who will serve the districts. One of MAPS main goals with the Student Officer Resource (SRO) program includes building positive relationships between students and law enforcement.
Merrill Chief of Police Corey Bennett, added, “We couldn’t be more excited about this addition and this ongoing partnership that continues to bear fruit for the community.”
“Officer Cimino and Officer Sass are definitely energized and looking forward to doing their part in promoting an optimal learning environment for our students,” said Bennett.
Other district goals for the SRO include identifying and preventing delinquent behavior through early intervention and referral, supporting victims of crime within the school setting, and providing crime prevention and safety education to students and staff.
