MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) — A pair of 6th inning runs by St. Louis didn’t bother the Milwaukee Brewers as they scored an 8-2 win over St. Louis on Friday, moving the club to the brink of a playoff berth.
Jackson Chourio, Issac Collins, and Joey Ortiz each recorded two singles. Chourio added a sac fly and two RBI as well.
Christian Yelich recorded a two-run homer in the 7th. Jake Bauers notched an RBI double, the only other extra-base hit of the night for the Crew.
Quinn Priester allowed a pair of sixth-inning runs, the only blemish on another strong start. He went 5.1 innings, allowing five hits and one walk while striking out five. He was credited with the win, moving his record to 13-2. Aaron Ashby, Jared Koenig, and Rob Zastryzny teamed up to close out the game.
Milwaukee could have wrapped up a postseason spot on Friday with two additional results, but only one of those went their way. Both the Cincinnati Reds and the San Francisco Giants needed to lose. Cincy was the only team that cooperated.
The Brewers’ magic number to clinch is two, meaning a win on Saturday and some help will get the job done. Tonight’s game begins at 7:15, with pregame coverage starting at 6:40 on WSAU.
