Judge Chris Taylor
MADISON, WI (WSAU) — A former Wisconsin Assembly Representative and Dane County Circuit Court Judge has announced her intent to run for a spot on the state’s high court in 2026.
Chris Taylor, who currently serves as a Judge on the state’s Court of Appeals, launched her campaign for the seat on Tuesday, saying, “As an attorney, public servant, and now as a judge, I’ve always been committed to making sure everyone is able to access our justice system. The law is a powerful tool for protecting Wisconsinites, holding people accountable, and making our state stronger.”
She’ll be running for a seat currently held by Judge Rebecca Bradley, and she wasted no time taking a shot at her likely opponent. “Justice Rebecca Bradley has proven that she’s more interested in pushing her own right-wing political agenda than protecting Wisconsinites’ rights and freedoms. Extremism and partisanship have no place on our state’s highest court. Everyone who comes before the court deserves to be heard, respected, and treated equally – that’s exactly what I’ll do as a Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice.”
Bradley has announced that she will run for re-election. Should additional candidates emerge, a primary will be held in February 2026 with the top two vote-getters advancing to the April 7th ballot.
Wisconsin Republicans immediately painted Taylor as a liberal Judge. Chair Brian Schimming released the following statement: “Chris Taylor’s extreme partisan record has never been on full display outside of Dane County. After “liberal express lane” elections in Dane County and an appointment from Tony Evers, Radical Democrat Chris Taylor will now have to answer for her extremely partisan record in the legislature and on the bench.”
Supreme Court elections in Wisconsin are technically non-partisan, though in recent years Republicans and Democrats have lined up behind a chosen candidate. That’s led to millions in outside funding flooding the state each spring election, including last April when more than $100 million was spent on the race between Susan Crawford and Brad Schimel.
