HATLEY, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – Mission Lake in Marathon County is currently closed to boating and swimming due to high levels of E. Coli bacteria present in the lake.
The Wausau and Marathon County Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department made that announcement early Tuesday afternoon.
Testing has occurred every week since mid-May this year. This is the first reading with a high risk level.
They say additional testing is being conducted as they work to find the source of the contamination.
The lake will stay closed until water quality improves to levels considered safe for recreational use.
