STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — A Wisconsin Rapids man has been found guilty at trial for his role in the overdose death of a 28-year-old woman and her unborn child.
Laron Thomas was handed the verdict last week, according to a news release from Portage County District Attorney Cass Cousins. Investigators found Thomas had sold drugs to the woman’s boyfriend in the summer of 2022. She died on June 1st as a result of an overdose.
The 38-year-old was found guilty after a four-day trial. Jurors deliberated for about three hours before returning the verdict. The woman’s boyfriend is also serving prison time in connection with the case, but did testify against Thomas during the trial.
Sentencing in the case is scheduled for October 24th. Thomas will face up to 70 years in prison on both counts.
