WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Governor Tony Evers continued his back-to-school tour on Monday with a stop at Wausau East High School.
The Democrat says he feels that, through compromise, public education is in a better place than it was at the start of his term.
“I think this last budget had a lot of good things in it for our K-12 schools,” said Evers. “Things around mental health, making sure that we have more money for special education. That frees up general-purpose revenue to help schools be a little closer to where they should be.”
He says he thinks the 2025-’27 budget provides a good baseline for education funding, which he thinks the next budget should match or exceed. “[They’ll be] starting from a better place to make sure great schools like this can continue to be great.”
During his visit, Evers spent time molding clay with art students and observed ag students as they took vital signs on two goats.
Evers’ back-to-school tour has been a staple of his term, taking him to schools large and small across the state each August and September.
