
MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) — The Milwaukee Brewers won two of the three games with the St. Louis Cardinals but still managed to clinch a playoff spot over the weekend at American Family Field.
Milwaukee had one of its biggest comeback wins of the season on Saturday. They trailed 6-2 in the 8th inning before rallying for a 9-8 win in the 10th.
The Brewers scored two in the 8th, the Cards responded with a run in the 9th and then Milwaukee tied it with three in the 9th. St. Louis took another lead with one in the 10th before the Brewers tied it with a Caleb Durbin base-hit and won it on a single from Andrew Monasterio.
William Contreras drove in three runs for Milwaukee. Sal Frelick had two RBIs while Jackson Chourio, Christian Yelich, Durbin and Monasterio had one each. Abner Uribe picked up the win in relief.
The Brewers clinched a playoff spot with the win.
Sunday, the Cardinals built a 3-0 lead in the first inning against Carlos Quintana and made it stand up for a 3-2 win. Milwaukee had chances byt left eight men on base in the loss. Durbin and Danny Jansen had solo homers for the Brewers’ runs.
Milwaukee is now 91-59 on the season, 5 1/2 games up on the Cubs in the NL Central. They have Monday off before facing the LA Angels in a three-game set.
