WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – Aspirus Health is expanding their Wausau hospital, and on Friday they made it official. A ground breaking ceremony was held, gathering leaders from Aspirus, Miron Construction, and the city to celebrate the future of healthcare.
“This expansion represents the largest capital investment in the history of Aspirus,” said Aspirus President and CEO Matt Heywood. The project will add 40 to 70 patient beds, advanced diagnostics, specialized care units, and expanded surgical facilities – this new building gives a growing city more healthcare.
“Right now we are really at capacity, so when they need that care close to home, we sometimes have to struggle to meet that need. This will help with that. We are really excited to continue to meet that need,” said Heywood.
City leaders say the $227 million investment will help to meet the needs of an aging population with increasing complexity in patient care, right in our backyard. “This groundbreaking represents a significant step forward in expanding access to high quality, compassionate care, close to home,” said Wausau Mayor Doug Diny.
The project is expected to be done in 2028.
