TOWN OF NASHVILLE, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — The Wisconsin Department of Justice is investigating an officer killed a person during an emergency response in Forest County
Crandon police and Forest County Sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of an active shooter on Saturday afternoon at a housing complex on Indian Settlement Road in the Town of Nashville, located on tribal lands of the Sokaogon Chippewa Community.
The suspect fired at nearby homes and at officers before being shot by two Crandon police officers and a DNR warden. They died at the scene, where a rifle was later recovered.
No officers or civilians were hurt.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice is investigating the incident, and all involved agencies are cooperating. The officers involved have been placed on paid leave, pending the outcome of the investigation.
