GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – The Packers and the Cardinals have reportedly ended their talks surrounding former Pro Bowl pass rusher Josh Sweat.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Cardinals will not trade Sweat. Nonetheless, he did not elaborate on what prompted the alleged conversations between Arizona and teams such as the Packers and Eagles to end, both of which have expressed interest in acquiring the 29-year-old defender.
Rapoport’s report comes after other NFL insiders reported on Monday and Wednesday morning that Green Bay and Arizona were in trade talks for Sweat, who has refused to report to OTAs since telling the team he wants to be traded following Jonathan Gannon’s firing as head coach this winter.
Sweat and Gannon, the Packers’ new defensive coordinator, had a close relationship, having worked together for nearly a decade with the Eagles and Cardinals.
According to NFL Insider Sean Wright, the Packers and Cardinals have been in talks about trading Pro Bowl EDGE rusher Josh Sweat to Green Bay, with the main sticking point being the draft pick Green Bay would send to Arizona and how much of Sweat’s remaining contract the Packers are willing to absorb.
Sweat signed a four-year, $76.4 million contract with the Cardinals last March, and he is owed $16.4 million in 2026 and another $47 million over the next two seasons.
Sweat, 29, a fourth-round pick by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2018, is coming off a productive 2025 season in which he recorded 12 sacks and four forced fumbles in 17 games.
