WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Congressman Tom Tiffany says he isn’t canceling any plans after he was injured in a plane crash Saturday night.
Speaking with the media on Sunday, Tiffany said he signed up for the campaign and plans on seeing it through. “There are a whole lot of people in Wisconsin counting on me. I hear from them every day, and when you make a commitment to something this important, you have to follow through.”
The plane, a single-engine Beechcraft K-35, lost power while descending into the downtown Wausau airport. Both Tiffany and the pilot suffered minor cuts and bumps, but neither required hospitalization.
Tiffany adds that his doctors have told him to avoid flying for the next few days, but he does plan to take to the skies again once he’s recovered. “I have full confidence in these pilots; I’ve flown with a few of them over the course of the last year and I have full confidence in them. Another thing that I have a great appreciation for now is the municipal airports we have all over the state. We have a great network of airports, and I’ve seen a lot of them [recently].”
He also credits his wife, Chris, for her support. “She has allowed me to seek the state’s highest office. I hope and expect she will be with me all the way through the final six or seven weeks [of the campaign.].”
Federal aviation officials have been called in to investigate the crash, a process that can take up to two years. Tiffany says he will cooperate with the investigation if needed.
