Milwaukee Brewers
PITTSBURGH, PA (WSAU) — A late Milwaukee comeback attempt was erased when the Pittsburgh Pirates scored twice in the bottom of the 8th to secure a 7-4 win on getaway day in the Steel City.
Sal Frelick led the offense, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Bo Naylor hit a solo home run in the 8th; Garrett Mitchell had a double and a run scored.
Milwaukee recorded nine hits; Pittsburgh had seven but went 2-for-6 with runners in scoring position. The Brewers were 1-for-9 and stranded 11 baserunners.
Pitcher Kyle Harrison took the loss, allowing five runs (four earned) and four hits while recording just five outs. Four relievers picked up the slack, including Garrett Stallings, who allowed just one hit over three innings.
Milwaukee falls to 95-58 and will stay on the East Coast for a three-game set against Baltimore starting on Friday. The Orioles are 75-78, 2.5 games out of the last AL Wild Card spot. Their elimination number is eight. The Brewers have already won the NL Central but are still chasing a bye to the NLDS.
