Oct 13 (Field Level Media) – Carolina Hurricanes captain Jordan Staal will be sidelined “anywhere from a month to two months” due to a tear in his calf, head coach Rod Brind’Amour announced on Tuesday.
Staal was injured in warmups prior to Carolina’s 4-1 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday. The 38-year-old forward has been held without a point in six games this season.
He totaled 36 points (20 goals, 16 assists) in 75 regular-season games last season. He added 12 points (eight goals, four assists) in 19 playoff games, earning the Conn Smythe Trophy as postseason MVP while helping the Hurricanes capture their second Stanley Cup championship.
Staal has totaled 747 points (318 goals, 429 assists) in 1,409 career games with the Pittsburgh Penguins (2006-12) and Hurricanes. He was selected by the Penguins with the second overall pick of the 2006 NHL Draft.
