MEDFORD, WI (WSAU) — The Taylor County Sheriff’s Office has identified the two men involved in a shooting incident on Tuesday.
Officers found 21-year-old Austin D. Olson of Medford dead near a home in the Town of Little Black at about 8:45 PM. Initial information indicated that the shooting was accidental, leading them to arrest 19-year-old Brent M. Porter of Marshfield on charges of recklessly endangering safety and handling a weapon while intoxicated.
Porter posted a $5,000 cash bond and was released, but the investigation continued. Officers interviewed multiple witnesses and analyzed digital and physical evidence, leading them to upgrade the charges to intentional homicide.
He has since been returned to jail. Court action on the new charge is pending.
