WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The Wausau Fire Department has pinpointed the cause of last weekend’s fire at the Sturgeon Bay Apartments.
Investigators have determined that the fire was caused by a cooking accident. Crews were able to contain the fire to a single unit, preventing damage in other areas of the building.
One person was treated at a local hospital for breathing issues; no serious injuries were reported. Unfortunately, a family pet did not survive.
Wausau MetroRide and the Salvation Army assisted at the scene. Once crews cleared the building, most residents were able to return to their homes.
“This incident serves as an important reminder to remain attentive while cooking and to never leave appliances unattended,” officials added.
