MEDFORD, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – Homicide charges were filed Monday in connection with last month’s shooting death of a man in Taylor County.
Brent Porter, 19, from Marshfield, now faces a charge of being a party to reckless homicide in the April 28th death of 21-year-old Austin Olson of Medford. Porter is also charged with homicide by intoxicated use of a weapon, and two misdemeanors.
According to the criminal complaint: Porter accompanied a female he was dating, when they went to Olson’s home to retrieve her belongings after she broke up with Olson. She said the two men immediately started arguing and pushing and shoving, while two of her friends tried to break them up.
Olson was shot in the stomach.
Porter told investigators one of the others fired the gun, but they both said he did it, and that he said it was an accident.
The investigation showed Porter had an alcohol level of .08, which is the legal limit of intoxication.
Porter is in jail on a $250,000 bond. He will be in court Wednesday.
