WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – A former Marquette Golden Eagle star got into some trouble during the New York Knicks’ championship parade on Thursday.
According to a fan video posted on X, Knicks point guard Tyler Kolek was briefly stopped by authorities who believed he was a fan who jumped the barrier while drinking a beer and walking alongside one of the team’s buses transporting other players and franchise alumni. After team staff intervened and informed the police that Kolek is, in fact, a member of the team, the cops allowed him to continue.
Kolek responded to the incident in an X post, saying, “I swear I’m on the team bro,” while also claiming that police “almost tackled him.”
Kolek, who was taken 34th overall in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft and had his rights traded to the Knicks from Portland, did not play in any of the team’s NBA Finals games but averaged 4.4 points and 2.7 assists per game for the Knicks during the regular season.
