MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – The Milwaukee Brewers are acquiring more veteran pitching help as the team prepares to make a playoff push when the All-Star break ends this weekend.
According to MLB insider Brian McTaggart, the Brewers and Houston Astros are in agreement on a deal that will send starting pitcher and two-time World Series champion Lance McCullers Jr. and lefty Colton Gordon to Milwaukee. The return going to Houston is yet to be confirmed.
McCullers Jr., 32, has been on the IL since May 19th due to a shoulder injury and has struggled this season when healthy, holding a record of 2-3 with a 6.86 ERA and 43 strikeouts. He is set to become a free agent at the end of the season after signing an extension with Houston back in 2022.
Milwaukee has been in the process of retooling its starting rotation recently, as both Jacob Misiorowski and Kyle Harrison have been dealing with fatigue and injury-related issues while Brandon Woodruff is expected to miss the rest of the regular season after being placed on the 60-day IL last week due to ongoing shoulder concerns.
