MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – Marquette University has released its latest political poll, and it shows that the race to be the Democratic candidate for Wisconsin governor isn’t currently close.
According to the poll, which was released on Wednesday morning with a margin of error of 6.6%, Democratic Socialist Francesca Hong leads the field with 38% support, while former Lt. Governor Mandela Barnes is in second at 16% and Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley is a distant third at 7% support.
Kelda Roys and Joel Brennan are tied for last place in the poll, with 2% support each. However, 34% of respondents said they remain undecided about who they will support.
The candidates took the debate stage on Tuesday in an attempt to convince voters that they are the best candidates to support. Hong tried to disassociate herself from the Democratic Socialist of America’s national platform during the debate by claiming that she does not support defunding the police or abolishing the U.S. Senate, even though previous X posts of hers that said “Defund police” and “Abolish the Senate” have resurfaced this week. She had also previously voted against a bill that would have penalized local governments for cutting police funding.
When Marquette Law issued its likely voter poll earlier this month, it revealed that Republican candidate Tom Tiffany and Hong are tied at 44% support, with Tiffany leading Hong by three percentage points among registered voters.
