VILLAGE OF MAINE, WI (WSAU) — The Wood County Sheriff’s Office has identified the subject of Tuesday’s multi-county high-speed chase.
John Wallace of Oregon, Wisconsin, was found dead in the vehicle following the chase, which began in Lincoln County and ended in the Marathon County Village of Maine. A preliminary autopsy shows that the 48-year-old died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Officers from Wood County and the Wisconsin State Patrol investigated the scene, and preliminary information shows that “at this time there is no indication that any officer involved in this incident discharged a firearm during this incident,” according to a news release.
All officers involved are cooperating with the investigation, which will continue to be led by the Wood County Sheriff’s Office.
No further information, including what sparked the chase, has been released.
