MOSINEE, WI (WSAU) — The latest never Forgotten Honor Flight takes off a week from today, bringing 96 Veterans to Washington, DC to see the memorials built in honor of their service.
The September 21st flight will be the 57th since the Honor Flight chapter began 17 years ago. According to a release from organizers, this flight will feature eight Korean War Veterans and 85 Vietnam-era Vets.
Never Forgotten Honor Flight operates four flights a year from the Central Wisconsin Airport, taking Veterans from 13 counties to Washington. Veterans leave the airport at about 6:30 AM and spend the day visiting the World War II, Korea, and Vietnam memorials. They return at about 10 PM, when the public is invited to a welcome home ceremony in the CWA terminal.
The next flight is scheduled for October.
Any Veteran who served before May 7th, 1975, is eligible to take the free flight. Applications are available at the Never Forgotten Honor Flight website, along with a list of frequently asked questions.
As of June 1st, more than 5,300 Veterans have taken the Never Forgotten Honor Flight.
