Sep 27 (Field Level Media) – Karolina Muchova and Linda Noskova won their singles matches to lead the Czech Republic to a 2-0 victory over Ukraine in the final of the Billie Jean King Cup on Sunday in Shenzhen, China.
Muchova topped Anhelina Kalinina 6-2, 6-3. Noskova defeated Elina Svitolina 6-3, 7-6 (5) in the second match to clinch the Czech Republic’s first BJK Cup since 2018. Overall, the Czechs have won 12 of their 13 appearances in the event final.
This was the second appearance in the final four of the Billie Jean King Cup Finals for Ukraine, which reached the semifinals in 2025. Sunday’s event was the first final for Ukraine, which dethroned two-time defending champion Italy in the semifinals to reach the final.
Singapore Tennis Open
Leylah Fernandez of Canada won her first title of 2026, capturing nine consecutive games to defeat Australian Talia Gibson 7-5, 6-0.
It was the first career final for Gibson, who lost her serve at 5-5 in the first set to open the door for Fernandez to win in one hour, 38 minutes.
Fernandez closed out the first set with three wins in a row, then dominated the second set. For the match, she converted six of 12 break chances.
Gibson mustered just 12 points in the second set – nine on her own serve, three on her returns.
Korea Open
Kimberly Birrell defeated Maya Joint 6-4, 6-2 to earn her first WTA Tour title in the first all-Australian singles final on the tour in nearly 10 years.
Joint jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but Birrell cashed in on two service breaks to win four straight games and go on to win the set.
Breaks also were key in the second set, with Joint losing all four games on her serve. Birrell converted six of 10 break points overall, while Joint converted three of six break points to keep her in the 83-minute match.
Joint struck 41 unforced errors against 12 winners, with Birrell posting 10 winners and 21 unforced errors.
