MERRILL, WI (WSAU) — A 27-year-old man accused of killing his father has been scheduled for a nine-day trial next June.
Austin Stevenson is accused of killing 48-year-old John Stevenson in the spring of 2025. Investigators were called to the home for a welfare check, where they found John with two gunshot wounds to the head.
The younger Stevenson was in the home at the time and reportedly admitted to shooting his father as investigators were working.

He was previously found not competent for trial, dating back to October 2025. Since then has received treatment and medication and was deemed competent during Wednesday’s hearing. The trial will run from June 28th to July 9th, with a break for Independence Day.
Further court action is scheduled for November 19th. A final pretrial conference is scheduled for June 18th, 2027.
